Devotees believe the Saraswati flows underground and joins the Godavari and the Pranahita here, which is why the spot is renowned as the "Dakshina Triveni Sangamam". Some also hold that the two openings on the Mukteshwara linga mark the emergence of the Saraswati.

The Pushkaralu of the Godavari, the Pranahita and the Saraswati are each observed here in their own turn. The Saraswati Pushkaralu were held from 15 to 26 May 2025; the Godavari Pushkaralu fall in 2027 and the Pranahita Pushkaralu in 2034.
